They were carved 800 years ago in walrus ivory and are considered to be the greatest chess pieces of the European Middle Ages.

Carloway Broch are the remains of a structure built in the Iron Age.
The compass/Astrolabe reminds us of the great importance that the sea has had on the island and it's people.
